First Day of School

I love the first day of school!

There is something so engaging and organically satisfying about the fresh beginning of a new school year. It’s a new teacher, classroom, desk, text book(s), and lunch box – not to mention the heralded supply stash, school shoes, and clothes!

For those of you who are interested in getting all those awesome pictures of your kiddos on their first day of school – there is a site for you!  You must check it out.  "Must?" - no I mean M-U-S-T!!!!!!!  (apologies for the abuse of exclamation points! - oh - .)  Her name is Kelly Willette and here she gives a great run down of photographs that will be absolutely precious many years from now.

This girl has thought of everything! Since the purpose of this Eldridge blog is to emphasize the importance of the visual history, I simply have to recommend taking this list and capturing the monumental Back to School environment that we are all enjoying!

Let me just say that I love the grain and texture to this picture! It feels like a moment that's been snagged and tagged for the memory.  That chemistry is the difference between portraits and snapshots.  BOTH are vital to a good visual history!

No, you cannot call him Quasimodo.  It's just two towels and a lunch box.  If you know Ethan, you know he's dramatic.  hee hee hee

I love these pictures of Elise with her teachers!!!!  How she loved them!  Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Powell from Lee County Elementary School.

To finish this post, let me just reiterate that these are NOT meant to be portraits.  These are images that freeze the moment.  The grain and texture give me the feeling of an old black and white movie that has been frozen, and I absolutely adore the feeling of emotion that it gives each of the images.  A friend of mine quotes one of the most successful photographers in the world today, and I will, too.
